Ashe County is home to three incorporated municipalities – Jefferson, West Jefferson, and Lansing. Of those, Jefferson is the largest in terms of both population and physical size, followed by West Jefferson and then Lansing.

Each municipality features distinctive visual appeal, annual events, small town charm, and retail, dining, and cultural opportunities. Visitors to Jefferson can walk through the 1901 Courthouse museum and be transported back in time as they explore exhibits documenting Ashe County history. West Jefferson offers a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly downtown filled with antique shops, art galleries, unique eateries, and entertainment.  Lansing is home to a number of restaurants and Creeper Trail Park, which features stages that are filled by bluegrass performers during the annual Ola Belle Reed Festival.
